Trying to avoid work..

July 7th, 2004

Not taht it’s particularly difficult. I don’t know why, but every attempt to write a seriously large coded object has to start with this procrastinatin proccess, which lasts anywhere from a few hours to (once) a few months. Actually, this also applies to writing music, and writing fiction.. there’s no particularly good explanation for it.. I like to think I’m just letting my creative juices boil.

How called today and asked me for time estimates for all teh slices of the ICM for the third time. I told him I wasn’t playing that game any more, and that none of them had changed since I hadn’t written any of it since te last time we talked. He agreed not to call again until thursday. One can only hope. By then maybe I’ll be on to writing things.

I need to peruse AVRfreaks and see what sort of cleverness other people are coming up with for their bootloaders. I guess I’ll do that now.

I don’t feel particularly well, and I have no good explanation about why except perhaps the half-pint of pickled garlic I ate. I really need to stop doing that.. the problem with pickled garlic is that once you’ve eaten one, it’s sooo hard to stop..

Carrier test..

Okay. so I’ve been lacking in posting to my journal.. and most of the things I have posted have been private-sheer-only journal messages. You all missed me, right? Right? Oh. Wait. Maybe not..

Anyway, I’m not really sure how to sum up the last few weeks. Cygnostik came and visited and we went to victoria and I got excessively drunk, something I shall not do again for a long while.. [the smell of whiskey still makes my stomach do a slow roll to the left]. I guess the powers taht be figure alchohol should be legal because unlike many of my more beloved chemical substances, it carries it’s own punishment. And how.

Now I’m trying to get up the energy to write a shitload of assembly for a AVR to do a bunch of interesting things. I can’t say my heart is really in it, but perhaps I can pretend.

And contemplating what I want for breakfast / lunch / dinner / whatever it is..

More later when I have something to say (if I have something to say)

My opinion counts more than anyone else….

I can say that I feel like I suck.. but to actually claim that I suck involves judgement beyond that which I should claim.

1) I’m in process of trying to get all the details wrangled out for my band to play @ defcon. Wish me luck.

2) Did you all know that until some unspecified date somewhere between the 50s and the 70s [at last, a peice of data a quick google wouldn’t unveil] homosexuality was illegal in Britian? Punishment ranged from involuntary commision to lobotomies.

This is almost as bad as the concentration camps of WWII.. and yet, you hear no apologies, it’s not taught as part of our history.. I bet a fair chunk of you didn’t [as I didn’t] even know that this was true. It’s.. appalling.

More movies with P. – and assorted travel-related drama. Her grandfather is, if not actually dying, then at least somewhere beyond seriously sick, and so she is going to see him, and I’m going too because I work for her aunt sometimes and there’s some unresolved business on the table I need to deal with..

So that should be interesting, though it makes me most unhappy to miss two band practices.

Oh, hey, actually halfway-produced track @ http://www.sheer.us/stuff/toryalex/RolledGoldEarlyTake.mp3 – Lara, you might like it, it’s pretty close to psytrance..

My voltage tripler just made my problems three times as large. Must take another stab at this from a different direction. Think problem might be low recovery rate of crappy radio shack diodes.

This track actually is pretty cool.

Really.

Bark.

as a side note..

The other thing I did this weekend was provide sound for a party of P.’s classmates.. which mostly meant pushing about 20 watts worth of lounge music.. I just brought the madisons and the li’l 10″ Yamahas.. however, as cleanup rolled around and my stomach was about to turn at the thought of still more lounge music, I dropped in my favorite Paul Van Dyk album and pushed the master fader up.

Wow.

For such light/cheap speakers, those madisons sure move some air. Before long, the twenty or so remaining librarians, fueled by Mac-n-jacks in copius amounts, are doing the funky chicken.. it was a beautiful sight, I tell you. Even with no bass bins, you could feel the kick of the snare.. and I was still a long way from redlining. One li’l amp. I think I may have to trade in the Fender tops for some more madisons – and I’m _definately_ trading that mismatched stack of Yamaha and AB/TEch power amps for some more of the Crown PX700s.. I mean, not only are they powerful, but the Px700s are _light_. Like, tuck it under your arm light – not bad for a kilowatt and a half of very clean sound..

The other neat thing about the madisons is they’re trapizoidal cases – so you can nest three of them to make a good multidirectional main stack for voice.. or stagger them for wikked stereo imaging for music

Must.. throw.. underground.. fluffy.. music.. epic.. trance.. party.. for the remaining six fluffy happy trance fans in Seattle. [There are six of you, right? Right?]

[ANyone know a good venue? Preferrably one where the cops aren’t likely to come by.. My plan is to fund the whole thing myself, with a total out-of-pocket of ~$500, and have it free.. hey, free is good.. ;-)]

Among my goals:

June 6th, 2004

I want to rent a crappy warehouse and turn it into a bar with excessive neon and computer terminals named ‘the gentleman loser’

Unless there already is one, in which case I want to go order a scotch on the rocks. Or a irish coffee. I bet the Gentleman Loser served hella good Irish coffee.

Now, if you’ll all pardon me, I’m going to try out this new tripler topology. Look for me where you hear the loud bangs.

<cough> <Cough>

Well, my flu seems to be having another round of virulance or something.

Went to see Shrek 2 with P. tonight. I loved it – the nod to Ghostbusters with the giant gingerbread man, the ‘I need a Hero’ scenes, and of course Fiona’s decision at the end to have Shrek as a ogre rather than a hunk. Pure fairy tale, of course, and funny
