grrr.. stupid SUV drivers..

So I was rearended by a SUV @ 45mph today.

The van is still drivable, although the liftgate is rather thoroughly crumpled. My back hurts a little bit.. most of the dash popped out.

I hate SUVs.. any normal car could have stopped.. grr..

in other news, saw P. – didn’t go as badly as I thought. Miss her horribly still.

Not sure where any of this is going. Impressed at how things keep going wrong, though. My luck is definately shot.

Did the driver of the SUV at least have insurance?

geezus! I’m so sorry. 🙁 Hopefully you won’t feel any worse during the week…I’m just glad you’re okay.
Maybe this is just your “shit year”. Mine was last year.
Next year will be better. 🙂

Any normal car could have stopped, if the driver were paying any damn attention so they could depress the brake pedal at the appropriate moment.

    That’s asking a lot..

That reminds me… perhaps Mr. Yuppie was on the phone at the time of the collision? That would explain a lot, though it certainly doesn’t make me or my neck or shoulders feel any better. At least the headache hasn’t made a reappearance.

Could’ve been the phone or any other of a zillion distractions.

I’ve come to the conclusion that too many people take a completely lackadaisical attitude towards a task as serious as driving. (In some cases, it shows in the way that they maintain their vehicle–driving around with blown headlight bulbs, low or worn-out tires, crap on the windshield, etc.)

It probably doesn’t help that the DMV is more interested in making sure that you, for example, know how to parallel-park than they are in making sure that you know how to merge onto a highway courteously and safely before they give you a license.

It also doesn’t help that traffic enforcement seems to be limited to catching speeders–and surprise surpise, they have a device called a radar gun which does all the work. No thinking needed for the law enforcement officer!

Now they want laws against cellphone use in the car. Excuse the hell out of me, but aren’t there already laws against distracted driving that could be applied to the situation? Oh, but once again, that requires the law enforcment officer to engage a few brain cells and think about the situation–it’s so much easier if you just make it illegal to use the cellphone and then the law enforcement officer doesn’t have to think so hard.

In summary, it’s all a bunch of crap. Have a nice day.
